Visit of Sri Ganga Mira, 12-14 April 2017

On 12th April 2017, Swami Atmananda and the Ashram community joyfully received a visit from Sri Ganga Mira, a long time friend of Swami Ji, who also personally knew Sri Swami Abhishiktananda and his disciple Sri Swami Ajatananda, from whom the Ashram takes its name. All those in attendance felt the warmth and love of her presence, and a beautiful satsang was shared by both Swami Ji and Sri Ganga Mira. Two days later, Sri Ganga Mira returned to the ashram with her daughter Mukti Ji, and her grandchildren Arun and Satya for a private lunch. It was a great opportunity for Sri Ganga Mira and Swami Ji to share the fond memories from their friendship, along with plenty of laughter.

Having grown up in the Belgian Congo, Sri Ganga Mira abandoned her university studies in Brussels after reading Socrates’ famous words “Know thyself!” in her philosophy paper. Just twenty-one years old, this inner call took her to India, where she settled on the banks of the River Ganga in Rishikesh. Soon thereafter, she met a sage with whom she had her first awakening experience. He left the next day without Sri Ganga Mira knowing anything about him, except that she had met her Master. Sri Ganga Mira stayed in the same place for the following eight months in the hope that he would return. He did, and was revealed to be Sri H. W. L. Poonja (affectionately known as ‘Papaji’), a direct disciple of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Sri Ganga Mira travelled with Papaji as his disciple and the two later married. Their daughter Mukti was born in 1972.

Since 1998, Sri Ganga Mira has shared satsang all over the world. She now lives with her family near to the ocean in the Algarve region of Portugal.

Visit of Revered Sri Shantimayi, 10 March 2016

Revered spiritual teacher Sri Shantimayi graciously visited Ajatananda Ashram on 10 March 2016 with some of her disciples. The moments shared together between her and Swami Atamananda Udasin and the ashram community were joyful and timeless.

Sri Shantimayi is an American teacher hailing from the state of Ohio. She met with her spiritual guru in Laxmanjula (Rishikesh) in 1988 at the Sacha Dham Ashram, which is situated along the holy Ganges river. H.H. Hans Raj Maharaj Ji of whom she is a direct disciple, is the fourth master in the Sacha lineage.  As all the Babas of this authentic lineage and in the line of the teachings of her master Sri Maharaj Ji, Sri Shantimayi has dedicated her life to the enlightenment of all beings.

Sri Shantimayi is the rare embodiment of the living “Principle” that resides within all. As the only westerner as well as the only woman ever to carry forward the grace of her lineage (Sacha) in the 1990’s, she has been giving satsangs for more than 20 years in Rishikesh and around the world and has attracted countless students from nearly every continent.

Sri Shantimayi has also been involved with many religious teachings. She draws upon the quintessence of many traditions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity as well as the spirituality of Aboriginal Tribes of the Americas and Australia. She is not held in the borders of a particular tradition but instead she honours them all without preference. She is an unconventional mystic and her essential message is that all beings are of one Truth.

Visit of H.H. Mahant Baba Brahmadas Ji Udasin, 1-3 October 2015

From 1st till 3rd of October 2015, Ajatananda Ashram was graced by the visit of H.H. Mahant Baba Brahmadas Ji Udasin, the 12th Mahant of Dera Baba Bhuman Shah Ji, Sangar Sarista (Sirsa, Haryana). Sri Mahant Brahmadas Ji is the Spiritual Head of a sangha of hundreds of thousands of disciples and devotees of the great mystic sage of the 18th century from Punjab, Brahmalin Srimat Baba Bhuman Shah Udasin (14th of April 1687 – 27th December 1747) who is also known as the Gurudeva of  the contemporary sage H.H. Sri Chandra Swami Ji Udasin. He is also in-charge of the numerous temples that have been built in different states of northern India by the Hindu followers of Baba Bhuman Shah Ji after they migrated to India in 1947.

After his elevation to the Gaddi of the Dera on 5th of February 2003, Sri Mahant Brahmadas Ji declared that he would spend his whole life serving the humanity and helping the poor and needy. Over the last thirteen years, he has also been spreading out the teachings of Baba Bhuman Shah Ji by visiting many villages and giving satsangs all over India especially in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. People of all religious traditions now regularly visit the Dera to seek the blessings of Sri Mahant Brahmadas Ji and to avail his spiritual grace and love.

Sri Mahant Brahmadas Ji was received on 1st of October with joy and great honour by Swami Atmananda Ji Udasin, Swami Tirthananda Ji Udasin and the entire community of Ajatananda Ashram, and was invited to preside over the prayers and arati to Baba Bhuman Shah Ji.

The next day, Sri Mahant Ji went to pay homage to the Samadhi Shrine of Brahmalin Swami Dayananda Saraswati who left his body on 23rd of September 2015 and met with the President of Dayananda Ashram.  He then proceeded to Gurdwara Hem Kunt Sahib, Rishikesh, related to the spiritual legacy of Akali Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji, where he was welcomed by Sri Darshan Singh Ji (chief director). After visiting the magnificent Gurdwara and the vast beautiful compound, Sri Mahant Ji was invited to have a festive lunch with the officials of the Gurdwara.

Sri Mahant Ji was then officially received at the Shivananda Ashram, headquarters of the Divine Life Society (Rishikesh), by Vice-President Sri Swami Yogaswarupananda Ji and Secretary Sri Gopi Ji who took him for a visit of Gurudev Kutir at the Shivananda Ghat, the Samadhi Shrine and the Sri Vishwanath Mandir. He then met with H.H. Sri Swami Padmanabhananda Ji, General Secretary, who invited him to give a special satsang at the Samadhi Shrine as part of the evening programme at the Ashram where he was warmly welcomed and felicitated by H.H. Sri Swami Vimalananda Ji, President of the Divine Life Society.

On the last day of his visit, Sri Mahant Ji went on a pilgrimage to several holy places in the nearby Himalayan foothills: Sri Vashishta Gupha, a holy cave of the Vedic times and the abode of Brahmalin Sri Swami Purushottamananda Puri (from 1929 to 1961); Chidananda Kashi (Kutya) at Kaudiyala, the hermitage of H.H. Sri Swami Ajatananda Saraswati (from 1975 to 1977); Sri Swami Ram Tirtha Meditation Gupha where the great Vedantic sage attained Self-Realization.

Satsang with H.H. Baba Shiva Rudra Balayogi, 23 March 2013

Sri Shiva Rudra Balayogi Maharaj is a Self-Realized Yogi and direct disciple of Sri Shiva Balayogi Maharaj. Originating from Karnataka, he was sent as a twenty-year old, to manage the ashram of his Guru in Dehradun, at the foothills of the Himalayas. There he spent twenty years in selfless service and meditation. Soon after the physical passing of his Guru in 1994, he entered a stage known as tapas—intense and unbroken dhyana (meditation), in which the mind is kept in perfect thoughtlessness.  He then was absorbed most of the time in samadhi during the next five years. At the end of his extraordinary tapas, Baba Ji merged into the Self and achieved moksha (liberation).

Today, seekers from all over the world travel to the Dehradun ashram in search of spiritual guidance. However, Babaji also visits many parts of the world teaching meditation and continuing his Guru's mission. He has established numerous meditation groups in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and around India.

Satsang with Sri Mooji, 15 March 2013

Revered Spiritual Teacher Sri Mooji graciously visited Ajatananda Ashram on 15 March 2013, and offered satsang to the many monastics and seekers who had gathered for this special family atmosphere meeting.

Sri Mooji is a direct disciple of Sri H.W.L. Poonja, the renowned advaita master, known to his numerous devotees as “Papaji”. Few amongst the modern teachers of the advaita tradition, expound the knowledge of the Self and the method of Self-enquiry with such clarity. Moreover, there is a divine energy that radiates from Mooji’s presence, a kind of impersonal intimacy—full of love and joy.

Over the last ten years Sri Mooji has been travelling to many countries where he conducts satsang meetings, intensives and retreats. He was in Rishikesh to share satsang from 13th February until 17th March 2013. He now lives in Monte Sahaja, near the town of Funcheira in South West Portugal.
